Rear Hatch Latch not working

I have a 2008 3 door with automatic locks and the hatch is not opening. When I press the button there is no resistence. I opened the door from the inside and removed the inside panel to expose the whelo latch mechanism.

My question is: Can I fix this be replacing a spring or something or will i need to purchase a whole new unit. Does anyone have a drawing or experience with this fix??

Probably corrosion. Remove the lock mechanism itself, then remove the lock cylinder (you will need to remove the spring clip). Use emery cloth to clean up the corrosion on the lock cylinder and the barrel and apply your favourite grease.

Installation is the reverse of disassembly.

Should take 15 minutes of work, tops. To get somewhere with it right now, liberally apply WD40 or another temporary water displacing lubricant. Do not use WD40 to permanently grease the lock as it will only last a very short while--use actual grease or another product you trust will last longer than a day or two. I used graphite, but that's messy.

If there is no resistance when pressing the button, the plastic center piece may be broken. that piece rotates with the keylock and when rotated properly it makes connection with the metal arm that swings when you press the button to hit the latch release.

This is what the plastic part looks like:

Hey there, thanks for the feedback. The issue was with the white plastic part that is pushed in with the release button. I actually ended up placing a clip from the back panel on the metal lever and it now makes contact , for how it will last, I don't know.

If you want to replace it, I have an extra one on hand. You would just want to swap the lock core to keep your key.
