How does the insurance rate for your Yaris comapre with your your other cars?

I opened my insurance policy for the next 6 months and again, my 09 Yaris will cost about $70 more than my 2011 Sienna van.

I am thinking it might be because of the safety rating of the Sienna vs the Yaris but from my perspective, it doesn't seem justified.

I am curious if other Yaris owners have this same situation.

My 2012 Yaris works out to $24 a month. I always buy the cheapest minimum required to register the vehicle.

Way more expensive than anything else I was looking at except perhaps the Honda Fit.

Then again when I look at the way I see how shitty most Yaris drivers are I understand why the rates are so high.

It would be cheaper for me to have an '08 Corvette than a yaris!

I spend about $700 a year in Ma. In Florida it was $1400. My last car was a 1999 Saab Viggen, it was about the same for insurance in Ma.

Kind of crazy when you think about it, insurance on a $40k car is the same as on a $13k car.

Old car (2007 Corolla) was $40/month. New 2012 Yaris is $42/month.

'09 Yaris - $798/year - full coverage

'09 Infiniti G37S - $802/year - full coverage

Reviewing the two policies, it is the "collision" portion of the Yaris insurance that is very high.

That's pretty cheap. I am paying approximately $1700/year for full coverage in Canada.

And that does make sense. The Yaris seems to be extra crunchy, especially that rear hatch area. Doesn't seem to take much of a hit back there to total the car.

I have the title.

I only carry what is required by State law.

I have a clean driving record.

I am betting on my own experience and skills to keep me out of trouble. (45 years of motorcycling tends to sharpen one's instincts very well.)

Also, if I total the car, I have the financial means to replace it.

The first, third and 5th above are true for me as well (although my insurance still reflects one point that came off my record a couple of weeks after my last renewal in September of 2012).

However, there are quite a few idiots on the road (especially on freeways in L.A., S.F. Bay Area, Houston, DFW, and especially in the southern part of Florida) so I look at it just about the same way Absolutely Red 12 does. The incremental cost of extra liability is negligible IMO (at least for me with my 'insurance score' (it's some sort of mixture of credit score/property owned/vehicle and property insurance claims, etc.) that insurance companies use -- a scale of 1000 --- my agent ran this report before giving me my quote and my score was 997 or 998 (can't remember which)) compared to what I could lose if sued.

Chevy PU vs Yaris 3dr

I pay $20/yr less in insurance on my 2012 $42,000 Chevy 4x4 PU than my 2008 3DR Yaris. My insurance agent explained it as comparing a tank versus a soap bubble.

At those premium levels, what is the total liability limit they are covering you for re any one accident? 50k? 100k? 300k? 500k? , etc.
