banged up front guard

Well, It had to happen.

The daughter bumped the front of the Yaris on one of those short, below bonnet level, poles that shopping centres seem to love.

You all know the ones I speak of, its a wonder the smash repairers who sponsor the things don't put their names on them.

Anyhoo;
The youngest, bumped the passenger side on one, by the look of it, quite hard.
the headlight now watches the road about 20 feet in front of the car and the panel is damaged, the door hits the guard as it opens.

What I'm wondering,
Has anybody here carried out minor smash repairs on a yaris front guard and bumper.
The bumper is scrap, I had to hit it with a blowtorch to get it into a shape to keep it legal and its held in place with cable ties and duct tape.
The guard is also probably scrap, for the cost of a new one its not worth the effort of repairing the old.

But I have not pulled down one of these before.
Is it a difficult job?
Is there any tricks I need to know about?

Any assistance or guidance is gratefully accepted.
