DIY - oil change

Due to the hack attack I'm re-posting a few DIYs I had in my files in PDF form... it's the whole thread, up to the point where I saved it. Many thanks to the original poster.

Fram Oil Filter

Why so anti-Fram? Did they do something bad to you? I've used them for years on various cars and always liked their quality.

Nothing against them personally. But when the net has a consensus, and most often are backed up by studies...you listen.

The premiums frams seem okay. But for the same price of regular frams or bit more, why not avoid problems?

Google and follow the links in the discussion and you'll see some cut outs and comparisons of the media they use and you'll see that often, fram ranks among the lower end.

I giggle when I see the AutoZone truck-trailers have pics of "Fram, America's number 1 filter" on them.

I have heard alot of bad stuff about fram, concerned me a bit becuase I have a 08 crv and the oem honda oil filter is a rebaged fram. I always figured if Honda is ok with it why should I worry. Well today my neighbor changed his oil and his fram filter just blew up and spewed oil everywhere. I think I will not use fram ever after seeing this. I use toyota oem on the yaris and will probably go with K&n one with the crv.

Speaking of K&N oil filters, Auto Zone just started carrying them. I might get them next time.

K & N is overrated

OE toyota is fine, inexpensive, and better quality filters

As soon as Toyota starts putting a nut on the bottom like the K&N's have I'll start buying them. Every filter should have that.
