The Fiesta hasn't had a chance to break-in.

Still really early, although your enthusiasm for them stinking is fun to see. Wait till there are about the same number of them and yari.

Again, they need breaking in.

And if you do mainly commuting, the six-speed will kick the crap out of the Yaris's four-speed auto.

That is what people are assuming, however this is ford, and they can screw anything up, so we will see.

now 8 2011 fiestas are reporting with an average of 35.38 mpg.

most are probably not manually calculating, but going off the digital mpg gauges, which are typically about 2-3 mpg higher than actual.

actually most of those gauges are really accurate. Have had a few different cars with them, and they've all been very close to my quick math at the gas station.

chevy cruz is coming out soon and it's boasting 40. due largely to what german car's have been doing for about 20 years...putting splash shields under the car, closing the ducts to the radiator at highway speeds, lower ride height and aerodynamic reductions...

And more importantly, a 6-speed auto. That tall 6th gear is critical to such highway mileage.

The Fiesta is still a Ford, and will still be pumping out blue smoke in a couple of years, if not before. It will still be a Ford, in other words. I wouldn't buy the thing if it got 100 mpg!

Let me guess. You also think Hyundai still builds junk.

We may be partial to Toyota/Yaris but the fact is is that the Fiesta trumps the Yaris in almost every category. Then again, it has the advantage of being newer and generally more expensive.

Ford is a completely different company under superb new leadership and focus. Ford's quality/longevity still isn't at Toyota's level (neither is anyone else's) but their quality is a whole new world over 10 years ago.
