don't tell me it's bad for my fuel pump. i know that. it's common knowledge. thanks though.

ever ran out? what'd it take to fill up again?

11.1 is what the manual says for capacity. Either the gas pump was miscalibrated, or you had 1/2 gallon in the filler pipe.

i've gone over 11.1 before, both by scan-gauge and actual gas that went in...

Yeah I know the other day I pushed my car to the limit without gas.

Ended up putting a total of 11.5 something gallons in.

Don't know how that was possible, or if the gas station is making money off the pump.

If you do the math, the filler pipe adds about 0.3 to 0.5 gallons to the capacity.

I did 11.5 gallons on a tank one time. It was also my record range on a tank - 502.4 miles.

jonismyname,

You do realize that running the fuel to that low is not good for the fuel pump. Since the in tank fuel pump normally to surrounded by fuel it uses the fuel to transfer away the heat. The pump isn't as efficient when to transfers that heat to the air in the tank. Give your fuel pump a longer life re-fuel at the half empty level.

I put in 11.6 gals once, but that was when I used to fill it up to the point of slooshing out the top. Still, I've gotten 11.4 gals in more recently when stopping after the second cuttoff...

Cheers! M2

Hey, did you know that running the tank dry may be hard on your fuel pump?

folks disregarding original post can post above, they've already got the ball rolling...

how much heat do these disperse into the fuel anyways? compared to the heat that's carried up and out of the pump with the fuel?

maybe someone needs to create a cooling system for the in-line out of tank gyrator type pumps i sell? carter and holley got some news coming to them...

on topic- it appears 11.5 is the ultimate cutoff... i wish mother toyota could've incorporated a slightly more accurate fuel gauge... now i have a better idea what to track with the scangauge...

Welcome to the forum, blown...
Just a heads up. That thread is over 3 years old so it's likely no one who posted there will answer. But your point is well taken, 40 mpg is far more realistic than 50.

Didn't you do a calculation at one point to determine what the absolute maximum capacity would be to the top of the neck and came up with 12.8 gallons? (I know, it's not recommended/safe/etc. to go past the click) The 12.8 seemed really accurate to me because I once ran out of gas pulling into a station to get gas, and filled up to where I could start to see the gas in the neck. The total was 12.777 gallons.
