Yes there are many reports of water pump failures.
I am a very low mileage driver.
My 2007's water pump failed two months ago at about 15,000 mi.
Nice pink stuff inside the pulley and a line of pink spray from the front to back on the inside hood.
Still in the 5 year 60,000 mi warranty.

Now if I could ever get the ECU to show a ready condition on my Scanguage. I would be happy as the battery was disconnected when the pump was changed. Thank goodness I had the CT. emissions done before the pump was changed.

We don't see as many yaris pumps as other models, but overall a lot of toyota W.P.s go bad. There is speculation amongst the techs that it has something to do with the formulation of the pink coolant (red coolant cars never had this issue). A rep from Aisin said they had changed the impeller material during production as well (no confirmation on this one)

My second OEM pump started leaking after 1500mi. I think I tried to tighten the alt to where the factory had it and hurt the pump. I've since loosend it and after a few months time it seems to have stopped..

We just had our water pump replaced under warranty. '07 model year purchased in '06 with just a few thousand miles under 60,000 mi.

Swapped out the serpentine belt while we were at it.
