Knuckle Replacement

Okay so I am not the most mechanically inclined but I can do some DIY stuff with my car. So I took my car in to Toyota to get the typical 50k checkup / oil change. I work a hectic schedule and haveing someone else change the oil is jsut quicker and easier for me. Anywho while I was there they were doing the front end alignment and call me in to tell me that my drivers side front knuckle will need to be replaced along with anotherfront end alignment. At the moment my car is OKAY to drive but it needs to be fixed. So I have some positive camber right now on my wheel. They are telling me it is going to cost around $950-$1000 is this typical or can I find someplace that does this work cheaper or is this something I could even maybe attempt myself? thanks for the help guys.

Find a local mechanic you can trust.

Where I live, the Toyo dealer charges ~$77/hr labor and my mechanic who is prob better charges $55. BIG difference.

I would try and find the parts yourself, maybe used, and then ask your local shop for a quote.

Doing it at the deal has it's advantages mainly if you are still under some kind of warranty, but not for this I'd assume.

What are they saying is wrong with the knuckle? It's probably the strongest piece of the front suspension. I can see the tie rod end or the lower ball joint being bad or even the lower suspension arm being bent, but I can't imagine the knuckle failing before one of those parts.

X2. It's not comon to replace knuckles unless you've been in an accident. I'd ask them to show you the damage and take some pictures.

I just know the tire has a noticeable lean to it. So from what they told me it was safe to drive I would just be doing damage to the tires.
