Used Oil Analysis : SHELL full synthetic 5w-30 (SN/GF-5 ) in the '08 sedan
Here's the report and pictures of the black pieces of silicone found in the oil fill hole this oil change ( past O.C. as well ) . The pieces are circled in YELLOW . These must be leftover from the excessive use of the TOYOTA black silicone form in place gasket sealer used during the head gasket replacement last September at 23,747 miles . The car now has 35,650+ miles . The column to the right is for the previous report of the PENNZOIL Yellow Bottle ( conventional ) 5w-30 ( SN/GF-5 ) . The TOYOTA ( Denso ) 90915-YZZF2 oil filter was used for both oil intervals along with a TOYOTA air filter . Here's the past U.O.A. for the Pennzoil conventional 5w-30 for the 2008 sedan ( http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34674 ) and the U.O.A. for 2010 3 door ( http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34042 ) with the same oil . Changed out to the SHELL full sythetic 5w-20 ( SN/GF-5 ) and TOYO oil filter . The 5w-20 seems to be doing fine so far , engine is a tad louder than with the 5w-30 synthetic . It's about same level of noise when using the PENNZOIL conventional 5w-30 . Plan to an U.O.A. for the 5w-20 synthetic in MARCH , 2012 . The SHELL synthetic held up a little better than the P.Y.B. 5w-30 ( right column ) . Can't complain since the SHELL full synthetic 5w-30 was only $3 a quart when on sale at BJs Wholesale , while the P.Y.B. ( conventional ) was around $2.50 on sale . The 5w-20 synthetic was $4 a quart on sale at BJs stores .

+1 , good bang for the buck when bought on sale . $2 ( dino ) > $4 a quart ( synthetic ) .

Here's a post of all UOAs : Starting with SHELL synthetic 5w-30 at top that also includes the prevoius fill of PENNZOIL conventional 5w-30 in the right hand column , then the PENNZOIL conventional 5w-30 ( '08 sedan ) , and the PENNZOIL conventional 5w-30 ( 2010 3 door ) at bottom .
