November 2017 recall?

Hi, I just got this in the mail.

It's for my other Toyota (2007 Avensis wagon) and it's about a recall for the passenger side airbag. In the letter it says that "due to manufacturing fault, if the unit stays inactive for a while, traces of humidity may be found inside, which would be dangerous for our customers, if the airbag deployed" Blah blah blah, that's really serious.

Have you had any recalls like this in the US? What's your experience? It's the second recall for the Avensis. We had another 2 I think for the Yaris. One was the sticky driver's window switch, and another one which I dont remember what it was about.

Yes, the Takata airbags are used in a variety of vehicles, not just Toyota models. I had mine replaced at no cost.

Yup, my 08 goes in on 28 December for the airbag replacement as well as steering column spiral cable and seat rail. My 06 goes in in June for a total of 5 recalls. The 06 would go in sooner but I asked the dealer to wait until June as it's in storage for the winter.

My Yaris 2007 went for driver side airbag change last year and I was told that once the passenger airbags are manufactured they will be replaced too.

Takata produced over 46 million wrong airbags and are now replacing them all over the world. In fact they had to go bankrupt due to this fact, however all faulty airbags will get replaced eventually, of course at no cost. Till then, please do not crash - if the airbags are engaged you may get even more wounded or even killed by metal parts shot at you from the airbag bay.

USA Yaris airbag left driver's side recall possibility?

For USA made in Japan circa 2007/2008 or others having passenger side Takata airbag recall: Should we be waiting for the other shoe to drop for the driver's side? Bag made by someone else? When do we hear Microsoft's line: "Your vehicle will no longer be supported after year 2xxx. Here is a hundred buck coupon to spend on a great new Toyota vehicle. (certain restrictions apply) Because your vehicle contains safety relevant components with limited service lifetimes, Toyota is cooperating with your motor vehicle department in a mandatory vehicle retirement/collection program."

(Yaris airbag left driver's side recall possibility?)

is it all Greek to you? :P

It's about TAKATA made airbags, which need to be replaced.
