Properly pronounced YAR-as. It's Toyota's little message to other drivers.
To SUV drivers it says, "I'm going to kick Yaris when it comes to MPG's."
To similarly priced Korean brands, it says, "When it comes to resale and lasting value, I own Yaris."
To Shelby Mustang drivers, it says, "Yaris is all I'll ever see."

FYI
If you like the name Yaris, you're better off not looking in the Urban Dictionary. Now, I feel all dirty.

Yaris is probably a madeup name that has no meaning
Which might be a good thing when looking at other not so lucky cars

I think I read that "Yaris" means "legend" in old Germanic.
