How do I burn an MP3 CD that will play in the Yaris?

On long drives when I can't count on something worthwhile being on the radio, I like to listen to podcasts. Most people like to listen to music, I prefer listening to science podcasts, yes, my mileage does vary.

Anyway, I wrote some MP3s to a CD-RW disk, but it wouldn't play. The manual says that it can't play disks formatted in UDF format, and sure enough, that was the format that windows formatted the CD in.

So, does anyone have any pointers on how to write MP3 files to a CD-RW disk so it will play in the CD player? The manual was vague and scattered on the subject.

Thanks.

You'll need to get a 3rd party program to make compatible MP3 CDs. Use something like Deepburner and it should work. CD-RW media sometimes don't work in car head units, so if it still doesn't work after burning a proper MP3 CD with deepburner, try using a CD-R instead.

I just use Nero Express and burn MP3 files using the Jukebox Audio cd option. A single cd would fit over 150 songs (depending on size of course). Just as long as they are MP3 files this will play. I even subdivide the music into folder and they work fine.

iTunes will burn MP3 CD-RW's that play fine in my car - I do it all the time.

I'll give iTunes a try. Since I'm listening to podcasts and I don't want to listen to them more than once, I'd rather use the RW disks, I dislike the waste of burning a CD just to listen to it once.

I'd like to have a stereo that had a USB connector, that would make things so much easier. But with a perfectly good factory stereo, hard to convince my wife that this was worthwhile.

I have an Eclipse CD3200 with an iPod interface, USB, and auxilliary on it. It was about $300 several years ago but I think HUs with those goodies have gone down a good bit. IMO, it's a worthy investment and will by far surpass the quality of the factory HU.

the cheapest hu's with ipod connectors are coming down to $100 or so, a very worthwhile investement, especially compared to buying cd's.

I have the same unit however without aftermarket speakers the HU will fry your stock speakers pretty quick...I blew my factory fronts in about 2 months and no I was not driving them hard...

as for the MP3 discs...I am confused I guess. I just made the discs with the stock deck burned as data discs, one and done.

Yep I knew someone around here had that same deck. And yeah...found out from experience that it will eat those factory speakers for lunch :P I replaced both of my 6x9s. They still worked when I hooked em up to the factory radio, but on my Eclipse they crackled all the time. My front driver side speaker went crazy this morning so I guess I'll have to replace those too lol.

I use Ashampoo Burning Studio 9 and CD-R's. I put around 100 songs each on them.

Just burn a data disc with the mp3 files on it. This is if you have the mp3 radio, of course.

ImgBurn will also burn it for you. It's free and you can ignore the option to install whatever bundled software was packaged with it. CD-Rs are pretty cheap even if you want to be thrifty. Unless you're buying Taiyo Yuden CD-Rs that you want to save, I would also try a different media to see if it might be a compatibility issue.
