It auto dims when the headlights are switched on if you enable that mode. It doesn't do smart dimming with a light sensor.

Scott,

When you get the Oz Cluster you will notice that it has a display area that says what gear your in, mpg, distance to empty, etc. But for some reason it's not switched on or does not seem to work here. If you could figure out a way (i'm sure you can) to make that stuff work that would be fantastic.

Bagel update- no package from Oz (if you're married you know there are ALWAYS packages :-) ).

It's only been a week and Tony said the post office down there told him up to 3 weeks time so let's all try to be patient. It might take Scott a bit of time to get to it too- remember he just might have things like work, family etc. to attend to before he can get to his and our hobby projects.

We'll get there - as soon as is feasible- I promise.

Lew

Interesting. So, Oz cars don't get MPG. I wonder if EU cars with the digital display do?

Can you give me the part number off of your ECM? I have a feeling that the MPG is calculated by the ECM and is sent to the cluster.

Ummmmm WTF is ECM? Sorry i'm not a tech head. As for the part number of this ECM where would I find that?

Also over here it would be Kilometers to the litre Km/L as opposed to Miles Per Gallon MPG.

I'm off to bed now as it's Saturday 17/10/2009 1:06 AM.

The ECM (or ECU) is the main computer. It is mounted to the firewall, under the hood and has two huge connectors plugged into it. The part number is on a sticker. In this picture you can see ECM with its part number sticker (and one of the connectors unplugged):

I forgot where I read it.. possibly in the manual. But the MPG display only works with South African models. There must be a module which we don't get in Australia.

Scott,

I've forgotten to look at the part number but will do so tomorrow.

But I have found a good quality picture of what I was talking about....

Oz Cluster

See what I mean by it should display those things but it does not.

Here are all the numbers on the ECU

89661-52C30
212000-2230 12V
2012230A

Here is a pic of the Oz ECU. It was behind the battery on the firewall.

Very interesting. The 89661-52C30 ECM is specific to the Australian market on NCP91R-AGPRKQ and NCP91R-AHPRKQ (3 door and 5 door automatics). I forgot that on RHD cars that they hide the ECM behind the battery.
