I wish I could help ya with buying something but there's nothing there they floats my boat at the moment. As far as the laptop screen goes, you're probably very capable but check the web for a diy. I've had laptop hinges break on me 3 times now and printing out the diys ahead of time saved me a bunch of trouble. Btw, at least with my laptop, hinges or screen = same instructions.

Bump for Tiny. The helmets would be HJC, which are an extremely reputable brand of helmet.

try hooking up your laptop to a second monitor. You might still be able to work until you can get the cash together.

TinyGiant,

I know you are already stressed out and are likely not in the mood at all for a lecture, but I feel that something must be said.

It appears that you had a fair amount of cash coming in for quite a while as you seem to have about half of all "toys" available, if not better. However, that a $200 repair for your sole income earning tool is beyond you after just a short time of unemployment tells me that you never saved much - if any - of it. While using a credit card is a horrible solution for any financial need I understand why you leaned to it now, but that they were taken away so quickly into your unemployment means that they already had sizable balances on them, and that you couldn't even make minimum payments, which also points to a lack of savings.

BluRay player, multiple video game systems, snow sports, something involving motorcycle helmets, car audio, superfluous car mods, etc., but not even $200 in savings.

While I know the money is a pain point right now I hope that you can see through the despair and frustration enough to learn from this, so that when you again have income you will remember to "pay yourself first". Money management is, unfortunately, not something most parents sit down and speak to their children about. Many of us must learn the hard way. The important thing is to make sure that you learn it.

If you would like some advice on how to get started with things like a budget, a savings plan and goal setting some day, just let me know. I'll be happy to help.

had some money in savings but going two months without any income drained it. The money that i have on credit cards was un avoidable. when i sold my paintball business i paid down the cards the spring before i bought my yaris i had a really nice jeep grandcherokee limited that needed some work for inspection.. so we did the brakes, windshield, rotors.. etc.. that was about 800 for all that.. on week while the wife and I were house sitting for my boss our jeeps transmission died. we dropped the car off at a local trans shop and 3500 later the jeep was running again. we should have just dumped the jeep but at the time we lived in a neighbor hood that had a huge hill to get out of the development. so we werent able to have something without 4wd. so that maxed out one card. the other card was from a while ago with a promotional thing for my business and then some little random home repairs here and there.

i'm seeing right now that if we didnt have he car/ins to pay we probably would be quite alright. and i havent done anything to thecar that has cost me anything. $4 cans of spray paint and $8 in LED lol anything i have on there that was more than that i paid for by selling what i replaced .. most times.

back when we had sold the paintball business i bought two ATVs to used for the summer then sold them at the end of the year to profit almost a grand. thats where the motorcycle helmets came in.

a 1/4 of our income is from self employment doing t-shirts which helps but its sporatic.

the things that i do have liek the gamings systems and projector and such actually i purchased before getting married. One thing my parents always told me is to get the toys i want before i get married because once you have a house/family you wont have the funds to get the extra stuff.

normally 200 wouldnt kill me but this month has been tight. i would have put it on a card and paid it off in a couple weeks but they closed all my cards when they found out i was unemployed. tehy actually tried to jack up my rates from like 5% to $29% so i asked them to close the cards so that i could keep my lower rate and just pay them off.

Alex0Net is hooking me up with the repair (i guess he does this for a living) so i'm good on it and his business will give me a month to pay it which is more that enough.

now that our house is in forbearance i have to send payment via a money order that has to be there before the 1st of the month.. this switched when i was used to paying my bills so it put us behind a couple weeks.

anywho i appreciate the lecture :) good advice is good advice. when things pick up and i have the funds to actually budget i plan to lol but right now we are living week to week

Forgive me for hacking this thread: A good portion of us are feeling some sort of crunch. Myself, it is more of working less in order to study more. However, i might have to squeeze in more work hours to keep up with the bills.

Before nursing school, I was working full time, buying a new cell phone every six months, buying guns and other toys whenever I wanted, and accumulated a sweet collection of laptops.

Now, I am a year away from finishing and have been pinching every penny I can. It hurts to see the latest notebooks and not be able to just whip out the card and say "CHARGE IT". My wife and I are also taking a little out of our savings just to get by month-by-month. I am also behind in my credit card for the same reason, I used a good portion of it to repair a beat up Ford Escort only to sell for less than half what its worth.

BUT! I know all this will pay off once I finish school. Determination and willing to learn from mistakes is what helps us succeed.

A band that i do t-shirts for had an interesting trade offer that i took today.

traded a small order of shirts for a arnette sunglasses display case (holds 30 glasses) and it came filled with sunglasses of different types.

I listed them all on ebay .. you can check them out here. .there are some really pricey shades in there that i will let go dirt cheap.

oakley, arnette, tifosi, anarchy, smith.. etc

here is the link
