RPM..

Hello everyone,

I just registered to this awesome forum.
I'm 17 years old, and I hope my parents will buy me a Yaris for my graduation present, next year. I've been looking at the Yaris a lot, and I just love the design, and thank God, it's very fuel efficient

Just a few questions, though..
Is the Yaris noisy ? Well, I bet it is, but how much, compared to the other cars ?
And how many RPM does it do at 50mph, 60 and 70 ? Would they be different with the AT and the MT ?

And eventually, I would change the stereo and the rims (if I get a Yaris)... Are these tasks relatively simple ?

Thanksss

Hmmm, I got my first car Yaris when I was 18 too

Car is noisy on freeway compare to others like a 2.0 or 2.5L cars, is the engine that roars and i guess insulation isnt the best. But you will get used to it so it's not a problem

When you are in the highest gear(AT) at 50mph, rpm is about 2300, at 60mph is about 2900, and 70mph is about 3200, redline 6300

I think MT has different gear ratio so the numbers would be different.

Actually the numbers I think are about the same. Going 110kph which is roughly.. 70mph it's just a hair over 3000

EDIT: oh wait this kid is Canadian.

Okay well going 50-60kph you're looking at 2800+/- rpm. I usually shift into 4th for overdrive at that speed. The highway noie is there, but I hardly ever notice because I play music. There are thigns you can do like spraying sound insulating foam (sometimes referred to as tar foam) in the wheel wells. I've yet to try the foam bit myself but am looking into it.

Thanks for your answers !
Well, WOW, that's a lot of RPM ! It's a small engine, so it's understandable, but it's still impressive to me. Thanks a lot for the info, though

Asfor the insulating foam... that sounds AMAZING ! I'll look that up. Maybe I could buy some for my parent's Sienna I'll still be driving for a year xD
I'll be blasting the music, everytime I'll be in the Yaris, so it's not a big issue

Well, not 100% sure, but I like its design, and a customized Yaris just looks awesome

If I get a Yaris, I'll surely customize it as much as I can. Simple stuff like getting real speakers, tinting the windows, changing the rims. Only that makes a stock Yaris a beautiful little car :P

I was thinking about the Corolla too, but it's very bland.
Oh and I'm not like the average 17 year old. I care a lot about my fuel economy, since I pay the gas I use, and I don't have much money...

So yeah, the Yaris seems like a great choice :P

Lol yea you are right, gas wise this is the one of the best. Are you buying new or used cuz in 2012 there will be a new generation of yaris (save even more gas). The now popular fiat 500 is also gas saving and stylish for young adult

That's a good thing because fast cars and youth are a bad combination.

Haha, good point !
Usually, I drive a little over the speed limit, on the hwy. and on country roads, but in town, I'm very careful.

I'll be buying used. 07 or 08, we'll see. I was thinking... since the new Yaris will come out somewhat soon, the price of the used 07-11 Yaris will drop a little, right ?

True, but it's the least reliable
I'll stick with 07/08 (:

Btw, is it expensive to tune a Yaris ? Is it easy to get cheap parts on the internet ?
Oh and the cruise control... Is it possible to get a Yaris without it, then install it ?
Thanks

Really?? i didnt know 06 was unreliable...

to tune a yaris? like to make it go faster?? hmm you would have to spend a lot of money.

yes.. you can get cruise control later on for about $500 at dealership and $200-300 elsewhere

Haha, I didn't mean they're not reliable. They're just less reliable than the newer ones. Unless I get unlucky, and I get a bad Yaris

Anyways, by "tune", I meant, like, tint the windows, change the clutch (I'll get a manual), change the sound system, change the rims, maybe add some colours in the car ? Basically changes to make a Yaris like this one
http://www.autotrader.ca/a/Toyota/Ya...0415153251311/
Would it be expensive ?

And thanks for the info for the cruise control !
