That rubber thing is a vibration damper. There is only one on the right (longer) drive shaft.

I am not sure how much of a difference you will feel without it, so I think I would contact Cardone to see if they intentionally leave it off.

The inner should be lubed with ATF. Just dip your finger in it and coat the spline and snap ring before you insert the shaft. The service manual doesn't indicate lubing the outer spline.

As mentioned the rubber is a vibration dampener. You should not notice any problems with it gone.
A little late, but for the next person; Put a little lube on the area where the seal rides on the inner CV axle. This way your seals are lubed from the start. Also, I see in the last pic you have the sharp axle splines resting on the seal. The idea is to not touch the seal with the splines at all. If the seal gets even a small nick, it will leak.
I typically use a bungee cord or strap to pull the knuckle assy back so I can get a straight shot at the transmission with the shaft.

Cheers,
Cory

I had to pull my axels to do a clutch swap on a '97 Saturn. Had the whole job done and buttoned up. Next day the freakin' axel seal leaked at the tranny side. Smoke all over from the oil landing on the hot exhaust. I almost broke my hand with a 3ft. pry bar doing the job. I was fed up and that's the day I said... F' this,I'm buying a new car.
Thus the new Yaris back in '08.....

I wonder if these axles are the same for a 2007 HB with a 1.3L engine? I need to replace the LH on mine, but the dealer wants $800.00 bucks.

Do you have the 2NZFE or the 2SZFE and which transmission do you have?

You just need to remove the ball joint on the side you are working on. For getting the axle out, there is a lip on the inner cup that you push or pull out by.

The left side is trickier than the right, as you have to pull that one out using something like the Toyota SST shown in the top image. The right is easy in that you can pull it out using a large screwdriver and a mallet.

i REAAALLY apreciate the reply, im planning on removing the lower control arm balljoint, will i be able to get the axle out just by removing the lower control arm? and can the outer joint be removed from the axle by pounding it out wit a brass hammer(im trying to replace my outer joint on Passenger side)

To pull the hub off the axle I removed:

1. Tie rod end
2. Ball Joint
3. Stabilizer link (the strut support rod)

With those disconnected I was able to easy yank the hub off the outer spline. Then you just have to deal with popping the inner spline out.
