Rear Brake Pads - REMOVAL?

Hi!

I'm new to Yaris world. I need to replace some parts on rear brake's calipper. Two "bolts with little holes" that come thru braking pads - how to remove it? I removed three pins (one was connecting both of those "pins with holes"together. Then what?

If you have brake shoes you need a brake shoe remover tool like this one.

http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/web..._T|GRP2007____

you can use a screw driver or come up with something but the spring might fly off and hurt someone\thing

I do have both - brake drums with shoes (E-brake I guess)
and disc brakes with pads (foot brake I guess)

I'm about REAR ONLY.

This one: http://img185.imageshack.us/i/1173087315.jpg/

I marked in RED the pins I want to get out for cleaning and changing pads.

So the thing is to remove and replace brake pads and then the "Pins with holes".

If you are referring to those shown, then an Allen key to fit the holes as you call them would be required. It appears as though they might have debris and rust where they are threaded in. I would shoot a little WD40 or whatever there let sit for awhile then being not overly aggresive slowly with the Allen key work the pins out from the threads. Once out I would clean the hell out of everything, lube where required and put the new pads in. What you want to avoid is stripping those threads.

I'm taking everything apart to clean it and paint red or black. I took another close look and I cannot see any allan bolt fitting in any of the pins or elsewhere. I painted this picture here, it is NOT mine calipper, but looks the same.

Questions:

1) Is there a thread at the end of both "PINS WITH HOLES /part number 90240-06021" ?
2) How to remove those ^^ PINS ?

Cheers

From the EPC diagram, I don't think they are threaded. They seem to be pressed in and then the spring clips act as retainers:

Yeah that's what I thought too. No thread. I used mini blow torch to boil remaining grease and then hammered it down and now one of the brackets is broken. The little one, where I marked thread on pins.

Just ordered another calipper for rear right, should be arriving this week.
But still there is a left one to work on.

Any tips please please please !

I just realized that I have the service manual for the 1st gen yaris. Here's the rear disc brake section:

Hey! Yeah, that helps heaps!! Thank you.

Looks like my pin just rusted into the calipper, so one of the brake pads.
Will try to get those pins out again. I wll try on the broken calipper first.

Thanks again !!

Bloody PINs, they just wont come out!

In the manual it says - yeah, remove the pins that all, well, that is impossible in my case

Here is a photo of a calipper before I've even touched it.

You can clearly see that the pins are mess. They corroded into the little brackets. Outside pad is melted together with a calipper.

What I was doing was - cleaning the calipper fro inside out without removing pins and pads. Then I tried my best effort to remove deposits from those pins to get them loose - no luck. Since all other calippers just got good service too - they were spray painted red - this one -the broken one also got a paint job. Without removing pins. This is the broken one here, you can see the little alloy bracket is cracked, near the end of one pins. So this is how it looks like, while I'm getting new calipper.

There is a rear disc conversion kit at microimage online store.
You cannot use the mentioned parts in this thread because here we are talking about a P1 (firstgen) Yaris with disc AND drum brake in the rear (drum is just for e-brake).

Wow this is an old thread. Did you ever get the pins out? You have to remove the stainless steel clips holding the pads first and then drive them out with a punch and hammer. They are the most annoying thing ever! I don't know why they aren't stainless steel either. Mine are always rusting, and I coat mine in brake lube to help slow it down.

Problem removing the pins? I had those brakes on the rear of my Celica. Those little metal wires are spring clips. Use a needle nose pliers and pull them out. The pins can be "wiggled" out with a pliers. If they are rusted like that old picture, the pins will need to be replaced. Honestly, I hated that rear brake setup on my Celica. The calipers only had 1 steel slide bushing, the other was rubber that didn't slide. The result was un-even wear, and lots of noise.
