The other pin for the cruise control is ground. You can simply tie the other wire to the frame of the steering wheel, since it is a chassis ground.
Ok...now what? Mechanic grounded the cruise stalk. When cruise stalk pushed to activate, the ABS, parking brake and PS lights came on but cruise still not working!!!

Any suggestions. Thanks!

I hate to say it, but perhaps have someone else do the work. Many forum members, who are not mechanics, have done this mod without an issue.

Based on the lights that came on, I would say at this point that your mechanic has the ECM pin in the wrong position.

You are correct. Cruise at last!

Easy Install

I have a 2010 5dr Liftback w/auto trans.

Per the Forum DIY, I used the following parts, ordered from ToyotaPartsZone.com:

84632-08021 Switch, Speed Control: Quantity 1 @ $78.89
84633-02020 Wire, Cruise Switch: Quantity 1 @ $27.93
45184-52130-B0 Cover, Steering Wheel: Quantity 1 @ $22.60
90159-50199 Screw, W/Washer: Quantity 2 @ $0.73

Installation took 20 minutes (taking my time). Works flawlessly.

After installing, I found this switch on ebay for $19.99 plus $10 shipping. Can't tell if the wire is included or not.

Cruise control on European Yaris

Hi everyone,

I want to hear the confirmation again. I read the thread and somewhere it is said that a European Yaris 09 cannot install cruise control using the method described above, is it true, and in that case, are there any other ways to install it myself without getting to dealer (who would ask for more than 500 Euro). Thanks in advance.

European ECMs definitely don't have the OEM cruise control.

Check out the link below. This Belgium based company makes an aftermarket CC for European Toyotas:

Thanks, CTScott for your quick reply. I followed the link, and it is quite amazing to see such a product exists (donot know the price though). As there are differences between European models and American ones, regarding the mods to the car (to increase performance and stability), which one do you think is the most do-able ones? (rear-sway bar, SSK, strut bar...?). Thanks in advance.

All of the mechanical mods (sway bars, springs, etc.) are compatible between American and European Yaris.

Regarding the SSK, how can I check if my Yaris 2009 is compatible?

I'll add... It's not the airbag you have to worry about (there are FAR too many fail-safes.)

It's eletrocuting yourself with the electric horn spade connector.

As me how I know...

YIKES!!!!! The airbags don't actually have fail-safes. You just give them 12V and they go BOOOOOOOOM!!!!! The SRS system has fail-safes to prevent accidental deployment, but the airbags are just simple explosive charges. To dispose of an un-popped airbag, you simply apply 12V to make it pop (with the airbag contained in a stack of tires for safety).

Well yes, but those connectors are hidden by rubber. Unless you're doing something worthy of a Darwin award, they will not magically receive receive twelve volts of power. (Unless your engine is running, coasting downhill, and happen to be stopped by a wall. )

Indirect heat doesn't set them off, either. Mechanic cut a stripped torch off the airbag in my Sunfire. We all gleefully awaited a BANG in the waiting room. Alas, only a bill for a half hour's worth of labour.

you wont be schooling anyone because there is no kit... just a bunch of individual parts bought and installed to make a function work.
