2nz-fe to 1nz-fe engine swap

so i have an 05 echo with 450km on the clock, engine seems to go ok but uses oil, blows a little smoke after a big downhill, i was offered a write-off platz a year or so ago for $150 with only 100 on the clock , i thought sweet a fresh motor and pats for the echo. on further investigation (after it was home) i realised it was a 1nz. have done a lot of reading on line about the swap and info seems to be pretty inconclusive about having to go for the new ECU or not, since the ECU does the ABS/ airbags etc i think it will be easier to stay with this one , its only an increase in capacity, the O2 sensor will pick up running lean and sort it out? maybe? , only one way to find out....
also the 1nz is an auto, so i will be swaping the flywheel etc and starter off the old motor, i wonder how hard this will be ?

productive day today, got the platz engine off the auto trans, loaded it into a wheel barrow and wheeled it round to the echo, the trans almost weighs as much as the engine.
winter is coming here , will try and get some done each night.
tomorrow i will try and get the wiring off the echo motor without breaking anything
Cheers,

ok so nothing really to report, swapped in a new clutch and pressure plate, everything was pretty straight forward , 1nz fired right up with the 2nz computer, warmed itself up then settled down to a nice idle 750rpm, went for a bit of a drive to get some power steer fluid and stopped at some roadworks, it seems to idle quite high, about 1400rpm, wil give it a few cycles of start / drive and see if it clears, i ended up using the air flow meter from the 1nz, i will swap that it it does not sort it self out in the coming days

There's a throttle plate stop screw that might need adjusting.

But give it some time. The computer has to learn the new engine.

Yes I know this thread is 3 years old now, but if you're still out there, what ended up happening, did the ECU sort itself out and run the 1nz just fine or did you end up having to get it retuned or even find a 1nz manual ECU

I'm in the same situation and am wondering if there are any major flaws in just swapping the motor out and leaving everything electrical the same :/

Hey, currently got a 2nz-fe and thinking bout swapping to a 1nz, If youve already done this, did the ECU need tweaking or was it fine to run without any messing around?

PS. wheres the best place to buy engines?
Cheers!
