Yaris dies in carwash!

Ok so not every time i go to the carwash but more than once my car has just died. It will start right back up but some times i have to give it some gas to keep running. Its a 08 yaris and i have no clue whats going on. Any one else have this problem? I do have the simota intake maybe this is my problem?

Your intake filter may be getting soaked. My aFe filter gets wet and once I threw a CEL. I need a way to protect it the next time I take it to the carwash.

i would think that all the water/soap might be finding its way into the intake. The soap would clog up the intake until it drys...

Are you going through a touch-free car wash that uses pressure washers or just a traditional car wash?

Yup, sounds like that cold air/water intake is working just dandy.

See post in Canada forum where Adrian hydro-locked his engine due to custom intake.

The stock airbox shields the filter somewhat. Many of the SRI kits and the aFe kit has the filter right below the hood seam.

They hand wash at my carwash and then run it through the high power water jets to rinse. I believe that's when the water is being forced through the hood seam and onto the filter.

I'm thinking of putting a strip of door edging on the hood near the filter to see if that will take care of it.

There's your problem right there, your aftermarket airbox is sucking up water...

What setup are you running?

Cheers! M2

or you can get a shield to go on the filter/intake. the door edge on the hood probably doesn't look all that cosmetically appealing.

Like others have said, its most likely your air filter. My girlfriends jetta use to die in every car wash, and sometimes even if you drove through a puddle.

I had a Neuspeed p-flow with a K&N on my old Passat, during extremely wet or damp weather it would suck up moisture and "flame out" the engine, kicking off a CEL. Plus it played hell with my MAF. Whereas it did sound cool and felt like it gave the motor more pull, it was a PITA to keep clean in bad weather (and this car spent three winters in Belgium).

Cheers! M2

Ok, I bought some clear door edge strip moulding. I'll put it on tomorrow morning before the car goes through the car wash. If it solves the wet filter problem, I'll take pictures so you can see if it looks stupid. If the filter still gets wet, no pictures.

what about putting in a vent for the water to go to... kind of like the shop vac ball system that keeps water out of the shop vac motor
