Speakers for 2009 4DR LB
I need help. I'm about to replace the OEM speakers for my 2009 4 door hatchback. I've read the sticky, and it says 6.5'' upfront and 5.25'' in the back, but it doesn't specify the depth. Should I be looking for shallow mounts (under 2'' depth) for the windows to clear all the way down? If not, how deep can I go without using any custom made spacers? I just want to reuse the stock speaker frame or whatever comes with the new speakers.
How hard is it to wire the speakers? Can I just buy some plug 'n play wiring harness? Any recommendations for what speakers to get? I'm not interested in a component set, just regular coaxials. My head unit is a Pioneer AVIC 310BT with a 14W RMS spec. I'm not looking to get an additional amp to drive the speakers. I just want to buy the right speakers that match the head unit - maximizing its 14W RMS spec. Should I get 2-way, 3-way, or 4-way? Thanks for the help/input. |

I put these in my 3-door Yaris Hatch.
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...TS-G1642R.html I am running them off deck power. 15 watts RMS. They sound great. They fit in front and rear. I gutted the factory speakers, and mounted these on the plastic ring. Just use the factory wiring, and the wiring leads that come with the speakers.

Hey thanks for the reply. I actually saw those speakers at a Pepboys salesfloor. A Kenwood and Kicker unit priced around the same as those Pioneers sounded way better. I asked a salesman to see if the Kenwoods and Kicker were hooked up to any amplifier, he said no.
He said the Pioneers sounded bad because of the lower sensitivity rating and frequency response compared to Kenwoods and Kicker. Anyway, what kind of specs should I be looking for in a speaker? Thanks again for all the help. Quote:

Keep in mind, those Pioneer speakers are not good for bass.
They are designed to play mid's and high's, with low power. The Pepboys salesman was wrong. The Pioneer speakers have a good sensitivity rating. ( 91db ) The Pioneer speakers need only 5-30watts RMS, so they work great on deck power. They do not need an amp. Remember, they are not designed to play bass. Their bass response sucks. I have mine on a high pass filter at 125hz and up. No freq's below 125hz ever go to my Pioneer speakers. As a result, they sound clean and loud at higher volumes. ( lower freq's would only muddy them up ) ALL my bass freq's are going to my Alpine Type-R 10" subwoofer. If you do not want to run a separate subwoofer(s), then you might want to avoid those Pioneer speakers. Initially, you asked what speakers would be good to run off deck power. And which ones would fit in the stock speaker locations. You did not mention if you like big bass or not. Some people just want cleaner sound. Some people want louder sound. Some people don't even know what they want until they hear it. And then.... you have the picky "audiophile" types...... ( these folks are almost never happy with anything )

Also, you asked about 2-way, 3-way, or 4-way.
2-way is all you need. 3-way, and 4-way speakers are just gimmicks. IF you don't have much experience with car audio gear, I would recommend you go to a reputable shop in your local area and get some expert assistance. Let them show you some different setups, and let them do the install. You can waste alot of time and money if you do not know what you are doing.

Alien Mantis, so if not the Pioneers, what spec should I be looking for in a speaker that will allow for good bass?
You're awesome, thanks again! |
