Location of Spark Plugs
Hi, I am a new member. My wife has a 2005 (1000 cc) Yaris, and as I have just retired I want to do all of the basic maintenance on the car. My first job is to locate and check the spark plugs. I had the bonnet up today, and had a look around. From just looking, I would think that the plugs are located beneath the air filter housing, and I would have to remove it to get at at least 2 of the plugs. Am I right? It is just that I read elsewhere on this forum that they are 'easy to get at as they are located beneath the decorative cover, and you simply remove the cover and there they are'.
Confused! Mant thanks for any help Regards Kev |

The spark plugs are on top of the engine block under the plastic cover with vvti on it.

And then they're below the coil packs....you'll need a spark plug socket with an extension...

Also, use a spark plug socket with a rubber insert to hold on to the plug as they are down in a "hole".

Thanks all for the help and advice. I removed the cover with vvti on it just to take a look see. On my wife's 2005 model this is the air filter housing, and underneath there are 4 terminals that each have what looks like a small nut holding them in place. I assume that if i undo these nuts, I will see the spark plugs yes?
Many thanks Kev |
