hitching and roof racking.. Griswold style!
My fam and I are going to a week long girls-volleyball tourneyment out of state, and we've decided to take the Yaris. We used to have a gigantic Nissan Armada for stuff like this.. So with one week to go my plan is:
- Curt Hitch w/basket - Yakima Roof Rack system ..like these.. - and some huge weather proof luggage bag/containers from Amazon.com So far, the hitch and basket were super easy installs. Im hoping the roof-rack (which is being drilled straight into my roof) will go as smoothly. I should get that done in the next few days and will post pics. So far... .. stay tuned for roof rack install It's gonna look like a giant suitcase with wheels when were done! |

-Good call.. just a few sets of golf clubs ad an ice chest..
Yaris tail-lights are fairly high up ito begin with.. plus the center brake light at the top of the hatch. But Im certain they wont be impeded. Very smart note though tx! |

My hitch basket should be arriving today.
Why did you go for a big-ass Class III carrier when we only have Class I hitch receivers?

Here's mine.
I like the feature of the step down shank on this one. Provides ~6" more ground clearance than a straight shank. No worries about backing it into curbs, or dragging when exiting parking lots.

Ya, I really should've thought about the step down shank. I was scared away by some reviews on amazon that stated bumper clearance issues with some cars..
Yours looks better too. I think mine goes 'just'above the curbs.. Just. Maybe I'll still buy one. Know who makes yours?? |

Could probably use some spring spacers on the rear to lift it up a bit. Looks like it's really dragging the back end down.
