Car seems to be sort of choking

Hi,

In the mornings when I switch on the ignition the car seems to be sort of chocking for a few seconds and then the engine runs fine. Only happens in the mornings or in the evenings after work when the car is parked overnight or for a long time say 7-8 hrs.

Otherwise the ignition starts normally in between.

It's a Toyota Belta sedan called a Yaris sedan there. Haven't check the spark plugs as yet though. Battery is fine.

I have a similar problem sometimes, but that's only because I've tinkered with my intake quite a bit.

Check that enough air is getting to the engine. The filter should be clean and all joints between the intake and the engine should be as tight as possible to avoid leaks.

Good luck!

Sounds like fuel pressure has bled down (fuel regulator not sealing 100% ?).

Try turning the key to the ignition position for a couple of seconds before turning the key all the way to the start position. This should let the pump build pressure.

You could also try some Sea Foam or injector cleaner to see if that helps.

Thanks for all your replies ....sis in law had a baby so was busy thru the weekend at the hosp.

@Flipper_1938 I tried what you had said but still that brief struggle after switching it on and then the engine is running fine....

Only happens in the mornings and after the car's parked for a long time

@Sucker face wont injector cleaners cause all the deposits/gunk to end up in the engine or elsewhere causing more probs in the long run? Just wondering....

@tk-421 will try your suggestion and chk that too..thanks
