2007 Yaris Battery: 26 or 35?

Swapping batteries. I got a 26. When the brought it out, I said it looked a bit small. They double-checked, and sure enough it said 26 (when I check online 90% of the places recommend a 26 series battery).

However, when I got it home, it's too short as many others have said on other threads. But then I read that some 35 series batteries are too big (Walmart, for example).

So I could make some spacers to get the 26 to fit or I suppose I could see if the 35 would fit.

Did Toyota change battery sizes at some point? My battery brackets are way too tall for this 26.

I put an EverStart from Walmart. A 35... It fits perfectly.

I returned the 26 and the 35 fits. I wonder why so many recommend a 26 if it doesn't fit?

Some over-the-counter group 26 automobile batteries are shipped and sold with a plastic tray over the top battery posts. It is to be removed and attached to the base of the battery if additional height is needed to reach the terminals.

Dealer replacement batteries are group 35. The group 26 recommendation you see is because of the car's low electrical load.

It's because the OEM battery isn't a BCI size--it's a JIS size 55D23L. There isn't a direct replacement for that size in BCI, but a group 35 (sometimes needs a riser block) will fit and meets the electrical requirements.

I believe I used a 35 from costco but mine was a little too big. It meant I had to zip tie the back to the bracket but still works.
