Yellow Windshield Washer Icon Blinking Off and On.

2009 base 3 door hatch. This icon is just to the left of the base of the speedo needle. Is this for the front or rear washer fluid tank?

The reason I ask is its too cold to go outside right now and if its the rear tank I wont go out and fill it but if its the front one I will...

Thanks!

There's no rear tank. Both ends are fed from the same tank in the front.

Huh I seem to remember having to fill the "rear" coolant tank when I got the car.

Must be losing it.

That tank icon doesn't come on with the rest of the idiot lights when you turn on the ignition either.

At least on my car.

At least on my car.

It's not a light that come on on ignition on. So it's normal.

Anyways, it would be pain in the ass having to fill up front and back instead of just feeding from 1 tank. Oh how I miss having a hatch.

It wouldn't come on with the ignition. The reason you're seeing it flickering is because it's low enough that the fluid moving around while driving causes it to set the light off - but it's full enough that when completely still the sensor still detects fluid.

If it was below the sensor at a standstill, then you would see it come on when you start the car.

Interesting! I just filled the tank but before I did it was staying on for long periods but still not on when turning on the ignition. I thought all warning lights came on when you turned on the ignition to test the bulb...

I could be wrong, but from my understanding of the sensor and my own experience, it flickered when I was low when I would be turning or shifting.

It's just a simple float inside the fluid with a magnetic reed switch. And there is only one tank with two pumps for front and back that is under the hood. If the light is on, it will usually take about a full jug of window juice.
