Windshield Replacement Costs?

So I live in Southern California and it gets VERY windy here. The other day I was on the freeway and watched a rock slam into my windshield and crack it! Mind you, it's teeny tiny (right now). However I was wondering if anyone knows the approximate cost to replace a yearis liftback windshield.

Some insurance companies will not replace your windshield unless the crack is as long as a dollar bill, so if it is not you end up paying for it. Cost of an OEM Toyota windshield at the time, a year ago was around $300 locally (NC) + installation. Cost varies for the windshield and the install from location to location.

Not sure about the legality of using a plexiglass windshield. They are used in the Jeep world by some, but only for offroad rigs. From what I understand, they are not a good choice for road use.

But I also got a chip in my windshield, and my insurance paid to have it fixed with no deductible, as long as it is not in your direct line of sight.

Call your insurance immediately and if there is any chance of moisture getting into the chip, put some clear tape over it.

Most companies will come to your house or work to fix it, and although it is still noticible it reduces the sight of the chip immensely...

Cheers! M2

Be careful about using insurance to replace even if they say it is free . It still counts as a claim . Most insurance companies have the right to cancel your policy if you make 3 claims in a 1 or 2 year period . When you get canceled by 1 insurance company for too many claims , the next company will consider you a high risk . Then you will really pay .

Look for a windshield repair company . Usually under $100

Just replaced mine on my 05 Echo and it cost $430 Canadian so i'd estimate mid $300's for an equivalent job in the US.

priced one locally, it was coming back about $260 + tax, not too bad for a fairly large windshield. shop around

Aftermarket will be cheaper, but if your insurance company is paying for it most states allow you to specify OEM.

if it's smaller than a quarter, it can be repaired.

Check your insurance policy. Maybe you have full glass coverage.
