I am having the same debate. I am worried that AEM's will get excess water into the engine. Does anyone have one of the AEM intakes and how does it perform and what is your thoughts on the moisture and water situation?? Thoughts anyone?????

The TRD version actually has this,ah I forget what they call it,its like a blow-off valve sorta, its in the middle of the pipe, and will open up if the presure from main opening is blocked(water),so no prob.

AEM CAI is fine guys.
The filter element is very well shielded from moisture. Unless you plan driving through the shallow end of a swimming pool, there is no need to worry. I live in Vancouver where it rains 99% of the year and I've yet to experience any hydro or engine lockups. The TRD CAI has a Bypass Valve (this was referred to as a blow off valve above - it's a Bypass Valve, not blow off ) so in the event that water does make contact with the filter element, it won't suck water from it. It can be argued that an intake with a Bypass Valve reduces its efficiency, but I won't say any more than that. You can't go wrong with either the TRD or AEM CAI, the choice is ultimately yours.

You'd have to drive through more than a foot of water to have a problem with the AEM. If you're thinking of doing that, can I take out a life insurance policy on you?

Like SPKRMAN im allllll for the DIY, you could probably do up some wicked fiberglass job with cusom paint etc etc and still have money left over to buy a K&N filter to put at the end of it rather than buy everything else off the shelf. Or just buy the stuff off ebay and mod it yourself....

good to see another DIY guy on here :)
The theme in here really hasn't been very DIY lately, at least not to the extent of some other forums.... most of the time the majority are DIY'ers, as is the internet. |

Just ordered the AEM from Jay at C2auto. I will post notes when i get it installed along with performance. I usually drive an extra 300 miles every week to see the old lady. We will see how it does in the gas saving department.
