Can someone post a pic if they have a 225/50/15 tires installed on their yaris?
Its almost time to get tires. I was looking to purchase some high performance summer tires and was thikning of getting 225/50/15 for the stock rims. Does anyone have this tire size installed and pictures of how they look. Especially on a lowered car.

225 is a serious pinch on stock wheel width.

Really? Hmm what would you reccomend then. If i really have to i might shell out for some cheap 15 inch rims. But then for a few hundred more i could just get a set of 17s =( . I am getting married soon so trying to keep my costs down.

225's require wheel width 6.5"-8.5".
I'd go with 205/55's. |

spending more on 17's is not an upgrade. they'll take away from what the car was made for, nimble, light, great brakes, etc.
a nice 205 55 15 is gonna give you just as much grip (and less hair-raising driving in puddles) as a 225. look into the Hankook RS3 if available in that size

Hmm tirerack has them on special in the bfgoodrich gforce sport which is the only tire i could find in that size that has a traction raiting of a double A. Also its on special for 79 dollars a tire which isnt bad.

traction ratings are based on straight line braking on wet pavement. they are not indicative of actual dry grip. if you want a grippy tire, read reviews, don't waste time with ratings. Remember, the DOT has very few requirements to make a road legal tire (Hoosier A6 and R6 road race/autocross slicks are DOT approved for crying out loud). read what the ST (autocross class) miata guys like, those guys can't be wrong.

for the love of Harvey Firestone, do NOT buy a Falken Ziex 512 if you want performance!

Fuzion ZRI and Yoko S.Drives are the only two i recommend from tirerack.com "for the price" and in a 205 55 15. i've run the ASX's (took 3 trophies in FSP on them) and they're a good all-season, but nah, if you want a summer tire, don't do ASX. the Ziex 512 is NOT a performance tire. the sidewalls are not reinforced enough, and at half tread they become awful in the rain. the ZRI's were markedly better, not a bad all-around tire, were great in the wet. the Dunlop DZ101's were a great street tire (but became very greasy when heated up at autocross).
Yoko S.drives i have not personally run, but if they're anything like the old Yoko AS300's it'll be a great all-around performance tire (and still ok in the rain)

Yeah ive had falkens on my acura. Very noisey and they seemed lacking traction on tight turns.

I read the reviews for the BFgoodrich and they seem to be pretty good. Pretty much everyone loves them especially the auto Xers. Plus i rather fancy the tread design =) I know i know though that is not any real reason to purchase tires. I dont really like yokos i worked at a tire shop years ago and we always had to warrenty so many of them. Tons and tons of them came back with blowouts and sidewall bulging.

i find it beyond interesting that there are so many people that take issue with running anything bigger than 15" rims on their yaris...i personally, have no issues with traction at all with my 17" wheels wrapped in 205/40-17 rubber...if anything, it grabs the road 100x's better than it did on the dinky little stock potenzas...there are tons of people on this site that run 18's and have no issues...if your tracking the car, i guess i can understand it but, then again, the smaller tires aren't going to save you from getting eaten up by cars with bigger engines and similar suspension setups...for any type of daily driving 17" are the sweetness, imho...
i don't know, maybe i'm just more show than go Last edited by ern-diz; 09-15-2009 at 01:30 PM. |

Yeah, don't buy the Ziex 912's too. I bought them, neglecting to look at how heavy they are. They're good tires, but I wish they were lighter.

I have 205/40/17's on mine. They're fine. I get a slight rub on freeway dips with my ET +40 rims.
