Post My Yaris Build Thread

Hello everyone,

I decided to start my own progress thread to get thoughts and ideas on possible mods and also to write up some reviews on the mods I have and hopefully provide a starting point to others who are thinking of doing them.

So to provide some background, my car is a 2017 Toyota Yaris S (Asian Market version), 1NZ-FE engine, 5 speed manual transmission, no cruise control. I live in Costa Rica so about 90% of the parts I get for my car are imported from the US or elsewhere.

I picked up my car in July 2016, heres a pic of it stock:

So the first mod I did to the car was the rims, I got STR 526 17" rims (Volk te37 replicas) with volk black lug nuts:

I also bought a muffler for it, Megan Racing MO-E muffler:

I'm not a fan to electronic throttle control I got a pedal commander to improve it, I have t say it does work very well, I'm happy with it:

I wanted to get a Cold Air Intake for my car, but I couldn't find any around, so I ordered an extra depurator cover and modified it myself to fit a cone filter, the sound it makes is pretty cool:

I ended up ordering a CAI for a 2010 US version Yaris, cause it looked like it might fit. When I got it the MAF mounting piece was completely different from the one in my car, so to make it work I cut off the MAF mounting piece and used the part from the extra depurator cap, put it together with some silicone couplings and it was good to go:

Also had to change the oil so I got Royal Purple 10W-30 Full synthetic with a K&N oil filter.

One of my coworkers went on a business trip to the US so I ordered a NST lightweight pulley kit. The crank pulley is smaller than the OEM one, I had to replace the serpentine belt along with the pulleys:

I also ordered some exhaust headers, these were branded as DNA Motoring Headers on eBay. The gasket provided was garbage, I reused my OEM gasket since its fairly new:

So I replaced the cone filter that came with the intake with a K&N filter:

Browsing around in the forum I found out there was a sporty pedal cover kit for the Yaris made by autobahn kraftwerk, I looked for it on eBay and found it:

I replace the tire valve caps with chrome Toyota ones, bought the te37 decals and replaced the STR sticker on the center caps for Volk ones:

Ordered NGK Iridium Spark Plugs:

Random interior shot:

Debagged the rear of the car and painted the Toyota Logo in black. Also got a wing:

I used 10W-30 because it is what was recommended by Toyota. I replaced the spark plugs because they were on sale and I felt like replacing them.

strange. i thought newer ones were being recommended 0-w20, especially in such a warm climate.

Yeah, temperature here ranges between 70 and 80 degrees. Somebody else had mentioned 5W-30 is what I should use but whatever, 10W-30 is what they told me and its within the temperature range anyway.

Thanks mate! I've been running these headers for about a month now with no issues whatsoever, the car does feel like its pulling a bit harder. I'd recommend to get a new OEM gasket cause the one provided is rubbish.

I think I read about the DNA headers on another forum; glad they're working out for you.

I'm a fan of everything you've done so far except for the wheels. Going with reps is one thing, but I personally wouldn't be able to re-badge them. It would feel as though I was only fooling myself. I'd rock the replicas proudly if that's what I decided to go with. In my opinion, putting real emblems on rep wheels is like putting Toyo Proxes tire lettering on a set of Sunnys. Not a good look.

Just my 2 cents, which is only really worth about 1.5 anyway ;)

I know what you're saying, it's just near impossible getting the real deal here.

Looks awesome man! Was that a weld on muffler or a bolt on?

Installed a H4 Xentec Bi-Xenon kit:

Forgot to mention I had to buy the fabric floor mats as the car came with some rubber ones, the ones for the 2016 US Yaris fit perfectly.
