Transmission filter is very important!

Changed out an auto trans filter for a friend on Saturday. She called me today, with big thanks, telling me how much smoother her car feels. She also stated it does not clunk when shifting like it had before the filter/fluid change.

The filter in her 07 Yaris was an aftermarket cheapy, and was very dirty, even looked a bit clogged. Her fluid was not very dirty( I had done a drain/fill a few months back). Her Yaris has 65k miles.

So I can only guess the filter was clogged enough to hinder the working pressure of the transmission.

I bring this up so others my not put off the filter change, thinking it can wait till next year. You could be robbing some life from your transmission.

Was there a lot of fine grey stuff in the bottom of the pan too? Any sparkly metal? If so, bigger problems are happening ...

It had the grey film, but no sparkle. The Grey film is normal, as the clutch/friction fibers wear, they leave that film.
