Lost Master Key
Hi all,
Following the forums for long time but this time I seek for a piece of advise/expertise. I lost the only key I had for my 2007 sedan 1.5L M Yaris. Unfortunately this is what I got from the previous owner. I have seen costs of terror (~$1200) to get a new ECU and a new paired master key. Before start crying I want to ask you a couple of things: 1. How can I know if the car is equipped with immobilizer? - If yes I will start crying right away. - If no - What kind of procedure is required (get new uncut key and just cut it)? 2. In case the car has immobilizer (which is the most likely scenario): - Is there any way to to bypass it? - Is there any way to get a used ECU with a paired key? Any help would be greatly appreciated jmanous |

1. Look at the ignition switch. if it is all metal it does not, if it is metal in the center and black plastic on the outside it does. If it has an immobilizer you will have to replace the ECM.
2. No, you can not bypass it. You can purchase a used ECM with a key or better yet, an 07 ECM which did not have the immobilizer.

1st call toyota.
2nd transfer to parts department and give them your vin. 3rd ask if it came with immobilizer package. If it didn't come with immobilizer package it only cost $17. If it did come with immobilizer they told me it cost $70 for the key and $120 to program it to the car. They didn't explain anything about the ecu. Before you do all these steps just ask yourself if you remember if you car starts with just a simple metal key or did it have buttons on it? This question isn't just for original posted but to everyone. Call the dealership and ask what packages your car came with. I |

Non-transponder keys can have buttons on them as well. Mine did, but the non-transponder copies I made work just fine.

So i went and got a master key from a toyota dealership.
I got a cheap generic key without the toyota logo. It costed $12. That's including tax. Just bring your ID & registration to the parts center. |

I had the lost key floating for months (I was away for work).
Let me give you the story. 1. Called two dealers around my area. - Told them I lost the only master key. - They told me ~$500. - Asked them if my car has immobilizer or not (based on the VIN). - They *both* replied YES. - Got troubled - based on your replies, I shouldn't have. My ignition is aluminium only. 2. At last got back, went in person to the dealer (one of the two). - I asked him again - "Does my car has immobilizer?" - He answered "I don't know - there is nothing relevant on the database for your car" 3. I got a key cut from the dealer -$8. 4. Started my car and left. Thanks for your valuable help. |
