try using a full synthetic motor oil to help quiet those valves . SHELL full synthetic and PENNZOIL Platinum are good choices at a reasonable prices . See posts here for prices , etc..

Same thing here and also on my 88 Toyota MR2. This is normal and is not a problem I have even herd it on a 83 Toyota 4cyl, cant remember the model. It is the design Toyota uses and is not an issue. Also do use a good synthetic oil will save you loads of money later on repairs.

started using syns in both YARIS around 1,500 miles , that's a bit after the 1,000 mile break in period that's mentioned in the owners manual . No issues so far .

the plastic intake manifold makes the noise of the engine more pronounced.

I used to have this noise in my corolla, but i found later that the radiator coolant was low, when i changed the radiator coolant the noise dissappeared. I believe this noise is from excessive heating, or low Octane type.
