If it smells in cabin, then you must have a leak.
Otherwise, cold start up and smelly exhaust, then , according to my knowledge, is normal. Sent from my SM-G930W8 using Tapatalk |

From what i understand when you start a petrol vehicle the fuel system runs in open loop until it reaches operating temperature which means it runs rich then when its up to temperature it switches to closed loop when the cars own sensors can give it the necessary information to control the fuel mixture. So a smell of fuel is to be expected on start up.

car runs rich until its up to operating temperature...
typically smell it when you back into your fumes or are downwind from your tail pipe. if you smell it in the cabin at idle without wind, you might have an exhaust leak somewhere

Sometimes a bad O2 sensor can cause an exhaust leak straight into the cabin vents. This happened to my car before the Yaris.
Open the hood with the engine running. If the smell is heavier in the engine bay than in the cabin, look for exhaust smoke coming from the manifold, including the sensor. Hope this helps.

On cold starts the computer only uses the intake and coolant temp sensors and MAF sensor to make fuel calculations. In addition to that, the cat isn't functioning until it gets hot. That's why it smells very rich in the winter.
