DIY: 2012 Radio Removal

Tools Needed:
1.Kung Fu Grip
2.8mm Socket, Extension, and Ratchet(I Used 8mm Screw Driver)
or Philips #2 Screw driver

Step 1.
Starting on the right side of vehicle(Passenger side USDM) pull the surround panel using your kung fu grip by the a/c vent. It is held in by clips all the way around. After you loosen the first clip just pull gently all the way around.

Step 2.
Pull the surround out around the radio. Held in by clips similar to the dash panel.

Step 3. (Optional)
Remove the connector for Hazard Switch. (I left it connected and let it hang)

Step 4.
Unscrew the Radio using your tool of choice.(Yellow dots, 2 screws on each side)

Step 5.
Pull the radio out and remove connectors.

The stock radio actually has everything I need, Ipod integration, Bluetooth Phone and Audio(I can even stream Pandora and watch youtube and it will play through the car speakers with the display of the text of whats playing.) I can use a USB Thumb drive, or just a regular aux port. It has HD Radio(You have to let it switch to HD mode and then there will be a 1/2 or a 2/2 in the top right corner to switch stations. It took me a while to figure that out.) I was actually tapping the wires for a subwoofer out. The only reason I would switch out the factory headunit would be for a Navigation display. I'm waiting for the Prius C to come out and see if that radio would be compatible.

No but if you still have access to a G.I. Joe, you'll be good.
