Fuel Door Release cable broken

i think i broke my fuel door release cable, its a 2009 toyota yaris sedan, how do i open the fuel door without using the release pull beside the drivers seat, i tried to pull it ( it was cold outside today) and it wasnt moving anywhere, i tried hitting the fuel door to try and loosen it up and it did nothing , i then rage pulled the lever and felt it break something ( car is at mechanics now )

any way of fixing this myself?

Maybe something is frozen by water and cold weather?

The fuel door release cable runs from the lever through the inside of the car (under the door sill plates and then along the side of the hatch or trunk. It ends with a plastic finger that pulls in when you pull the lever. My bet is that the cable pulled out of the tail of the plastic finger when you forced it with the door stuck.

You should be able to access the latching mechanism from inside of the trunk. On a hatchback it is right behind the rear tail light, but on the sedan it will be a little forward of the tails.

If the cable or finger are broken, I have one on hand if you need it.

i snapped the cable (literally) , it was all rusted inside and seized up, bought a new one from a dealer for 60$ and mechanic charged me 60$ to replace it since i didnt have time to replace it myself due to work :(, i added some grease on the cable to prevent it from happening again.
