Noise immediately after engine start
I have an automatic Yaris sedan 2007 with 64500 miles. Every morning when I start the engine I can hear a chirp noise immediately after the engine start (just for a second). I’ve already replaced the water pump but the problem persists. I made a test removing the serpentine belt and start the engine without that belt and the noise continue. Browsing on the internet I found a video with the same exact problem http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9a9wYUKvako . The problem is only when the engine is off for more than 8 or 10 hrs. When I start the engine less than 2 or 3 hrs after the last on period I did not hear the sound. Did anyone has experience that? Help is appreciate

Yesterday, I changed the timing chain tensioner (the chain and the chain guides look good for me), this morning, the same chirp. Any advice?

Really hard to tell much from the video. Is it possible it is the sound of the starter motor not disengaging correctly? Would hear it more from the rear of the engine.

I'm just trying to convince a friend of mine to swap our starters. I appreciate your advice.

I only thing I get from that video is the guy is holding the key in the start position too long.

All I hear in that vid is a noisy engine (that sounds like the starter isn't disengaging) but I don't hear any "chirp".

My starter sticks occasionally but no unusual sound. I don't hold the key in the start position but a brief second or less. My car has nearly 50k on it.

Problem solved! I've changed the solenoid (magnetic switch) and sounds like a new car. Thanks
