Cheap
Strong
Light

You can't have all three.

If you want cheap and light get the Rota's (but be warned, they are not the strong)

If you want cheap and strong get something like the wheels you mention from the Tire Rack (but be warned they are HEAVY)

If you want strong and light get something like the Volks or Watanabes (a little pricier, but well worth it IMHO)!

Yes, Rotas are quite cheap. But we are talking about the Konig Helium

No doubt, the Helium is also a cheap wheel.

What really irritates me is how some people use "cheap" wheels like Rotas, Konig Heliums, etc, for high stress purposes like auto-x and then complain that they fail. Come on people, are you going to enter a construction site wearing a bicycle helmet?

These wheels weren't meant for auto-x'ing, depsite the RACING label on the rim. They just aren't designed for that purpose.

My gut feeling is that some people bought Rotas, cheaper Konigs, ran them at auto-x, fucked them up, and then presented their sob story on a forum.

Again, I see no reason how these wheels (Konig Helium) would crack or fail under normal driving conditions.

Haha, it must have been a slip... I automatically think Rota, Konig, etc.. as all the same

I have to disagree about the track driving though... most racetracks are well maintained and smooth, the only times you usually see damage is when people go off track or are using mega sticky race tires with very stiff cars/suspension.

Most times I see damaged wheels is on roads where people hit pot-holes, curbs, uneven roads, drain ditches, etc... To me that is a lot more abuse and that is where you really need to make sure you have the strongest wheel possible. In fact, many "race" wheels are rated for "track use only" and are not DOT approved and aren't recommended to be used for street for that very reason.

One thing to consider is that the wheel the Konig Helium or Rota copy was originally designed as a Forged wheel. This is the only reason they could get away with making such thin spokes and still keeping the necessary strength. When this wheel is copied using a lesser design, such as casting with lesser materials, that is when it becomes unsafe. Don't get me wrong, chances are most people will never have a problem with the wheel, and even I'm tempted by the low cost and good looks. But you need to be aware that there is some risk when compromising on this type of product.

I really like the looks of these.

They say they are lightweight at 18.5lbs... for 15 inchers, isn't that a lil heavy to be considered lightweight?

The number you are trying to reach is no longer in service. Pease hang up and try your call again.

But to answer your question, yeah 18.5# is kinda heavy for a 15"

Ya, those are the ones... pretty sure I'm going to get those. They are a lil' heavy, but the price is right for the quality.

Kinda heavy? Those are heavier then my 18x10" wheels for my other car! That's also heavier then the stock steel wheels. You can find much lighter wheels for this budget without having to worry about cheap quality..
