"An a/c amplifier logic change and evaporator sub-assembly have been made available to decrease odor in vehicle."

It's not the cabin filter.

Can you just run a dilute bleach solution through the HVAC intake periodically? I would guess if you have the cabin filter in there it will keep organic debris off the evaporator, you just have to remember to change it at least yearly. I havent put a filter in mine yet - guess its time before the car gets stinky.

On some they change the AC Amplifier as well (which is the control system for the HVAC system).

I'd be afraid of the corrosiveness of chlorine bleach. Soak a steel wool pad with it and let it sit overnight sometime to see what it does.

Well, I just found my smell. Not the HVAC system.

Somehow there's water coming up through the floor in the rear and soaking the carpet. I don't carry passengers in the back and the top of the floormats was completely dry, under them is DRENCHED (and smelly, lol.) Just called and left a message with my Toyota service manager about it.

There have been posts on here about rubber plugs that are supposed to be installed by the dealers in holes in the floor pan, but often are left out. Check for that.

He called me back and wants me to get a new windshield first (mine has a crack in it) to make sure it's not that. Then I take it to him. Thanks Rockland, will ask him about it.

In the meantime check for the rear drain plugs (if you haven't already):

It's not the cabin filter.
Why would it be the cabin air filter when Toyota never put one in?

Perhaps he meant the "lack of" a cabin filter. I just know the problem has nothing to do with a cabin filter at all.

when i got my car, i had a couple rubber plugs in my glove box. i asked what they were for and the salesman had no clue. i still have them sitting in a box somewhere. do you know where they go? provided we're talking about the same ones... thanks!
