ok well at least that gives me something to work with. Still have to go to a shop to recharge the system but it should still cost less than getting the whole thing done there. i hope.....

I just had the TSB about the exhaust/catalytic converter assembly replacement done. Sulfur/burning trash smell is gone! Burning oil smell introduced!

Its a really bad idea to run your AC on recirc for long periods of time. Frequently change to circulate fresh air. Mold or something gets in the internal components of the climate control system. It stinks to high heaven. My wife did that to her Camry and its hard to sit in the vehicle it stinks so bad.

How would switching to 'fresh' prevent or remove the mold?

I think running on recirc never lets fresh air in. Its just the same old stuff in there. Sort of like not flushing the toilet! If youve got a bad case of it already, no, running on fresh air wont fix it. (but I think it would help!) For my wifes Camry I got a bottle of PureAir Auto Air Conditioner and Deodorizer. That fixed it muchmore better. But she STILL runs on recirc in the summer and never switches to fresh air so its nearly back where we started!

Well tried calling Toyota national service today as a last ditch effort, now bear in mind i have 38,000 miles on this car, only 2000 miles out and was told "we can do nothing for you" So i get to spend over $400 in parts and whatever it costs to recharge the system because these pricks don't want to back up their product. Next time I'm buying a nissan or a honda. Quality my ass.

That would cheese me off as well. I would suggest trying to track down the parts from a junkyard with a wrecked 09 or 10, rather than paying retail for them.

Anyone have access to the factory service manuals? Would really like to see the way the techs are supposed to do this repair before I start diving in....

The entire service manual is posted in the DIY section of the forum. The AC section shows the whole disassembly process.

Has anyone got this covered out of warranty? I thought it was normal until I found this thread. It should be a sticky as it applies to most owners out here.

The standard warranty is 36 months/36,000 miles. If your Yaris is still within that range it should still be covered. If it's beyond that have your local dealer run the VIN to see if an extended warranty was purchased.

So I just brought home my car after getting this done. Too bad I didn't find out about this sooner, I thought I'd just have to live with a smelly AC.

What should have taken maybe a day took them THREE days to give me my car back. First thing I notice when I get in my car and start driving is the steering is messed up. It is difficult to turn right or left, not smooth at all like before. Also my radio does not work at all. Tried all known stations and just get static.

Guess I will be calling them tomorrow and will probably have to go in again. Does anyone know why my steering could be screwed up all of a sudden?
