I've got a Scanguage II, installed it on the cover to the steering column just behind the wheel. Its about dash height...

Caliyaris on here sells them through his shop microimage. He's the one I bought from, great guy.

I have it installed so the cable isn't visible, and I bought a 2nd cable so I can pop out the box in literally 1 second and use the 2nd cable to pop into a friends car to quickly check check engine lights, or just let them drive around with it for a day.

I've used it to read engine codes on a honda accord and a subaru legacy.

There is also something called the ecometer which is much cheaper, but comes with less bells and whistles.

Click through the "Trip Computers" and "Scan Tool" links above the list as well.

I also have the Ecometer in stock, but it's $75 shipped. Can't get any better pricing without a $10,000 order from Autometer.

Mounted mine above the rear view mirror. Best place for it IMHO.

IMO, If your looking for just an instant MPG you should go with the ecometer.
They have an entire thread dedicated to it in the "Fuel Economy" forum.

Hope this helps.

Scanguage II rocks

I love the SGII it's great for hypermilling as well as engine info. I mounted mine in the drivers side glove box door.

The SGII has 3 selectable display update speeds: 0.5 sec, 2 sec (the default), or 5 sec.

scanguage is programable too... from time to time they come out with different info to show if you program it.... There is a horse power estimator that I programed into mine... its funny.... 106HP engine... and i've never seen it peak over 70.... course.... I haven't red-lined the car yet. When cruising at like 35mph it reads between 5-10hp. Cool lil gimick to show friends to make them think WOW! Cool

you can program extra trip meters in tho too...

I think it all comes down to your budget... are you willing to spend $70 or twice that amount.

Does anyone know of any actual auto parts stores that carry these in stock that I might be able to get one today? AutoZone, PepBoys, Napa... Any? Either the ScanGauge or the Ecometer...

I like the idea of not having to drill holes in anything to be able to install a typical tach...

Don't think many retail places carry the SC2 - but here's a link that might help. THere are two locations in PA. http://www.scangauge.com/buy/retail.shtml

You may have slightly better luck with the Ecometer though it is kind of new. I think autometer gauges are carried by more retail outlets.
