Damn that sucks. Always thought tinting the front windows was legal, but not if it's the windshield. Change in law again?

Well, this thread proves that everything is legal until you get caught

^Like I said: Everything's legal until you get caught.
Then it just depends on the cop. If he's cool, he'll just give you a warning. If he's a douche, he'll write a ticket. If the he's the biggest asshole alive, he'll give you a ticket, search you, and your car. Looks like ID got a ticket for his tints, not the missing plate.

However, you can only "just pay the ticket" if he/she marked it as "non-correctable". If it is correctable, you must correct it and show proof of the correction to get it signed off. Technically the law is that you have to have a front license plate AND it has to be centered. As noted, there is clearly room for law enforcement to be tough or lenient as they wish about enforcing the details.

the funny part of this whole thing is that he let you take a picture of his car. isn't that in the scavenger hunt?

I thought you couldn't have the front two windows darker than 35%. Atleast that's what it was when I got my rear windows done.

Can I put after-market tinting on the windows of my vehicle? The main requirements for legal window tinting in California are: The windshield and front driver's side and passenger's side windows cannot receive any aftermarket tinting. If the rear window of a vehicle is tinted, the vehicle must have outside rearview mirrors on both sides. The law prohibits any person from driving any motor vehicle with any object or material placed, displayed, installed, affixed, or applied upon the windshield or side or rear windows, with certain limited exceptions. However, legislation signed into law effective January 1, 1999, exempts from the above prohibition specified clear, colorless, and transparent material that is installed, affixed, or applied to the front driver and passenger side windows for the specific purpose of reducing ultraviolet rays. If, as, or when this material becomes torn, bubbled or otherwise worn, it must be removed or replaced.
