Is there a way to "enable" daytime running lights?

I have a 2009 Yaris LB and noticed when sitting in front of a shop window that it does not have DTR's. Is this a setting somewhere that I can "turn on" or is it something that has to be installed from the factory?

You could just turn your lights one when you start the car...

Otherwise, I'm 99.99% that, except for the new model, no Yaris hatchback came with DRL.

DRLs were standard equipment for 2008 and 2009, so the prior owner may have disabled yours. If you want to know for sure if it was built with them, shoot me your VIN, or take a look under the dash above and to the right of the steering column for the DRL module.

I don't have it with me, but I sent it to you last week I think. (if you still have it)

Wait, what? My 2008 didn't come with DRLs, and I am the original owner...

I forgot about having looked up the keyless entry piece for you...

It turns out your car does not have the DRLs. For 2009 it was part of the cold are spec, and yours was not built with that package.

There is a different under dash harness for ones with and without it, so unfortunately adding them is not as easy as plugging the module in. The easiest way to add a set would be to use one of the Phillips DRL kits.

Thanks for your efforts Scott, its not that important, just something I thought was odd that wasn't "working" and would be nice if there was a free way of getting them to work. heh

It looks like for 2008, like 2009, they were only standard on cold area spec. Yaris.

Thanks, I thought there was some distinguishing difference. Whereas I always drive with my lights on, I still prefer the option of being able to turn them off myself if so desired.

If you dont have DRL and you want them just turning your lights on would be the logical plan-B.

just turn the little knob U self. You really don't want those on all the time because they end up ruining the headlight outer lens , they turn light brown and foggy looking, then in a few years you have to replace the whole headlight. Most parts place dont' sell you just the outer lens because they make more money that way..LOL of course.

I always thought the misting up of the plastic headlight lens was due to age, road rash and ultraviolet damage from the sun.You are saying its because of the headlight being on all the time?

No. The headlights being on has nothing to do with it. The plastic just ages and oxidizes, causing it to turn cloudy and yellow.

Is it permitted to have a parking light + front fog lamp instead of Drl?

I don't know if DRL is required in your country, but you might want to check with local authorities see what lights can be on at any time.

I know some countries prohibits fog lights when there is no fog.

In my country, DRL is what was designed by the manufacturer, and shall not be modified.
