Stripped Serpentine bolts.

Yeah, i'm a dummy, i stripped the bolts that holds my alternator bracket in place when changing my serpentine belt yesterday, ill post pics later, but if you know what i'm talking about and you think you can help me please let me know, Thank you.

Fig.1 shows the nut with the bolt still in it an the area from where it detached from.
Fig.2 shows a stripped nut. i believe both are 14 mm nuts.

Did you round the heads or strip the threads?

I rounded the head on one of them but i can still get it off, and the other one that holds the bracket in place snapped, the bolt is in the nut and right now i'm scared it will come off with engine vibration, the sooner i can replace the better.

Ouch! So, the bottom one is the rounded on and the top one is broken off into the tab on the alternator?

If you can't get something on the top one to get it out and can't get it out with something like and easyout, you could drill it out and either retap the hole, or use a bolt and nut.

I'm gonna go to a home improvement store and see if they have anything similar to the bolts on my car, i have a feeling you could remove part of the bolt assembly, but i'm not sure. they kinda look the same as bike bolts, maybe an autopart store might have it.

Isnt it just a replaceable nut and bolt in a sliding slot or a hinge on the alternator?

The top mounting point on the alternator is a tapped ear.

For the HW, try an auto parts store rather than a home improvement store.

Similar problem

I tried got the top off, but the bottom one is rounded off now. The bottom is hard to try and get an easy out. Those bolts are on tight. So I gotta figure something out.

For the top one though...Get the easy out and a drill bit, you want to make sure they are about the same size at the ends. I like to drill the hole, hammer the easy out in as i try to turn the bolt...Let me know if you get it. lol...I'll be working on mine.

If you have steel and aluminum, the aluminum will oxidize and seize the bolt. Will WD40 help? I'm wondering if you should put anti-seize on the thread when you re-install.
