OBD II based etest pass with 2zr swap

Well, it's been confirmed. In Ontario I passed the etest with a swapped 2zr and an xd ecu. It should he noted that i used tech stream to rewrite the chassis VIN into the ecu. You ca n pay the dealership to do this or do it yourself with the software and cable like I did. However, you should still pass with a different EVU VIN they just might ask you if you have replaced the ecu and you can say you did so due to the original one breaking.

They never asked me any questions and it passed as usual. Ontario no longer requires etests for non commercial vehicles as of April 2019, but I needed mine for January.

Figured this is useful info for anyone who lives in a jurisdiction that requires an etest that is simply an OBDII scan.

Let's the swaps begin!

Congrats! That's awesome. So they don't stick a probe in your exhaust pipe? Just OBD2 scan for emission related codes? We've never had emissions testing here in NB - too rural, I guess. LOL

You, however, have to submit to a safety everytime your tags renew. We don't. Only safety checks our vehicles see here is when they change ownership.

True. In fact I have one coming up at the end of the month. My van, this time. It should pass.

So it's possible to go 2ZR swap here in CA and stay road legal, correct?

That’s correct sir, but you need to re-write the vin and engine info to the new ECM.
