Problem is, in the $800 territory, I will rather buy a Nikon D3200, D5100 or a 60D. I'm planning on buying a starter camera package as yours, or slightly more expensive (hoping for D7100!). But for old tech like the 40D is at this point, it would need to be a very steep discount. At eBay, or better yet, Amazon, at least there's straight forward buyer protection and whatnot assurances available if the thing is broken by UPS, or if the seller attempts to pass off a dropped or defect camera. Used camera is used, no matter condition. No offense.
Edit: It's available for much less on eBay. You may have seen it sell for over $500, but I can pick it up "buy it now" for $330. The old generation lens is $360 new, but sells for around $70-150 at auction/refurbished. So, forgive my rudeness as you've stated you take offense to advice, but all you should expect is $370-$450, which places you in favorable competition to better performaning cameras available new (Rebel T3 is sold at walmart/sam's club for $499, T3i with lens kit for $599, and is better). Don't forget the Pentax K30!!! People always forget about Pentax and they put out a better package for cheaper than your Canikon "typical" product.
I'd say this package for sale here isn't too bad. Hope someone picks it up. Bump for a good buy
