Still waiting on a confirmation from TRD about the 3S-GTE in a Yaris... I saw a non turbo 3S-GE in a Vios at their workshop here (Vios is more or less the same size as a yaris sedan), and it was already a tight fit...

That's a good way to live life. I'm tryin to get back down that path. A sober one I mean. I wouldn't change my experiences for the world though. I'm just glad I never did heroin. Can't say so much for everything else.

I had no idea Lotus engines and narcotics had so much in common!
Wait...I started the drug jokes.

There is actually a very well circulated and much accepted "rumor" in the Toyota MR2 world. The story goes like this:
Once upon a time (late 1970s) Lotus began work on a two seater, mid engine roadster. The car was to be a small sports car that would get good gas mileage and be able to do very well in the twisties. Lotus also wanted to go more mainstream at the time and hoped to sell a good number of these cars. Lotus did some work on this car for a few years but was eventually discouraged when the marketing team went for demographic research. The marketing team came to the conclusion that Lotus did not have a good enough reputation at the time to sell very many of these cars in the good old USA. The costs seemed like they would not be worth it. Instead of completely throwing all of their efforts into the trash can, Lotus went to a large Japanese company hoping to sell the idea and develop some form of relationship with a big auto manufacturer. The idea was then sold to Toyota and a few years later the first generation AW11 MR2 was released! Nearly 20 years later, when Lotus began work on the Elise and the Exige, guess who they called to source and engine Ofcourse high ranking officials at neither Toyota nor Lotus will confirm this rumor 100%, but there are many "sources" who have agreed that this story is not too far fetched. Toyota and Lotus FTW |

Makes sense to me man! Well now I don't feel so bad for postin this since it was a tad off topic. And lotus is a british car company isn't it? So what about the Lotus having a Honda engine in there earlier models as discussed earlier?

No slapping needed. Honestly, before I never even looked at Corollas. Just another jap-trap...cough I mean rice burner..I mean. Box car. I didn't even start looking at Lotus until I actually started seeing the the Elise on the road in 06'. Is that when the price dropped or something?

Just thinking back to the times I had in the Elise still puts a big smile on my face, and I haven't driven one for 6+ years! The only car that's ever got my adrenaline pumping more was a 996 911 Turbo - which back then was worth 5x-6x more than the Elise, making it total unobtainium for me Quote:

Well, all production Elise variants ran a Rover K-Series 1.8L donk from 1996 until 2005, when they then switched to the 2ZZ-GE. So for the first 9 years they presumably didn't call Toyota about an engine However, the Elise GT1 ran an in-house 3.5L V8 from the Esprit, and some of the race versions ran a 6.0L V8 from the Corvette ZR-1. |
