Project RWD

Got a '92 miata a few weeks ago, its really Kevin's deal but I financed it so I thought I'd share...

Day we picked her up:

Ensuing body work and prep:

Flat Paint v1.0:

Flat Paint v2.0:

Flat Paint v3.0:

We have been through several different options on the exterior of the car [wrapping it in vinyl, rattle can, boat style paint, single stage....] and have yet to be entirely happy with it. However, it is a cheap STS2 car and keeping that in mind I'm just happy with "not rusting away paint."

As she sits:
1.6L 5 Spd @ 187,000 miles - runs like a champ!
new brakes [rotors, caliper rebuild, pads, fluid]
16" Mini wheels with Hankook RS-2s
crappy duel exhaust [new stock cat-back arrives Monday]
great leather interior
a rockin wood steering wheel
desperate need of a good top

Our main goals with this car are to have a fun to drive, reliable 3rd car that we track at our once a month autox events - so far, so good... For 116hp/120tq it paced a few seconds behind my pathetic attempts in the yaris around a 1.5+ mile autox course. Figures that I spend a lot of time and money on my car only to have a $1500 miata pace me - c'est la vie!

Enjoy, more to come later!

That makes me miss my project car(4 Runner) it was fun when I had it, I would love to get another project car some day I would like to get a convertible of sorts, I like yours. here's a picture of my 1989 toyota 4 Runner it had only 130,000 on the clock and no rust. I had to get rid of it costing to much to just sit around.

I love it, even on its 17 year old stock suspension - however to some degree I have to justify driving the yaris on a regular basis to at least feel like the supercharger was not a totally stupid investment

Yeah the ragtop is nice, but nothing beats a lightweight hardtop

Also converted headlights (no pop-ups to reduce drag) look awesome on Mazdas

The top needs replacing and ebay has new ones for <$200 so it holds rain out for now so that money is better spent other areas

Personally the pop up headlights make that car for me, I'd never convert it ... then again I did have a turbo probe and a st185 celica... damn those headlights!

I had these headlights on my NA (pic is not mine, I had a black one).

I also had a Racing Beat intake, NRG spark plug cables, 10lb rims, JDM gauge cluster, and a 3-pt roll bar.

My 54 yro mom hauls ass around town in her little red 95 miata. Some day if it's still in good condition, she's going to give it to me... I think it'll be a pretty cool little project car for me then...

Morgan......join clubroadster.net

You can try miata.net also...but it's mostly full of old farts that disgrace you for modding your car.

nice Morgan, if you want to check out some flat paint jobs theres a section on Honda-tech that deals with them. The real way to do it is buy regular paint and clear and add some flatening agent to it.

Satin Black FTW! Satin anything looks nice

yeah, clubroadster.net is on my list of things to check out on the web.

...the paint, I know Kevin shot all of those versions with a cheap gun and got it mostly even but its still not bad for a sub-$100 paint job that's not rattle can.

As for now, it makes a great delivery car no matter what color it is so I'm off to work!
