whats the best exhaust to get for the yaris hatchback/liftback? - I'm looking for one that will be loud - even though the yaris has a small engine etc - I want something decent - noticeable

I'm not sure how many have been installed.. I've read on the board about the tanabe, the blitz, and I have the Borla... BPT has a fujitsubo available as well.. but no idea what they sound like.. As far as the Borla goes I have to say that I love the deep rich tone it produces.. Not ricey or fart-can sounding... Maybe some ppl can record clips of the exhausts...

The best muffler to use would be a twin loop muffler
By far not the loudest but they are among the best performing mufflers out there for most imports and 4 cyclinder cars where low end torque is needed as well as high end HP.

Were you talking about the Brola Twin Loop Muffler from the Dealership?

borla are one of the worst quality exhaust u can buy....

The factory Borla, As far as I know just has dual tips and is not a twin loop muffler
I highly doubt Borla would put forth the time and $$$ to make a GOOD exhaust system when they make so much $$$ selling crap, at 20x the manufacturing costs

Regadless who makes the pipe it's the design/pipe sizing that makes the HP not the quality of metal/welds etc

Mugen, OBX, RD, Trendgear all make decent twin loop mufflers that anyone can pic up cheap off ebay.
Again these are quiet pipes at idle but louder under load. Cops won't bother you with a twin loop and they give better performance gains then conventional strait through mufflers.

RS.R is made by the same manufacturer as HKS...but RS.R ranked at 3rd position...forgot the best rated one...but either Blitz or Fujishubo...

Here's the thing with exhaust reviews....

they dyno test the same car with several set up and the mufflers that provide the most HP or most torque are rated at the top
FACT is the best pipes out there are the ones that provide the most useable and widest powerband.
normally they do not produce peak HP or Peak torque figures but OVERALL they are better for everyday driving.

For instance a pipe that makes 4 hp from 3000 rpm to 60000 rpm
will put more usable everyday driving HP then a pipe that makes 5hp from 4500 rpm -6000rpm.

Also remember TORQUE is what makes you quick, not HP
HP makes you fast.
Torque is what gets you up to speed, HP it what keeps you there.
that's why if you want to increase HP and better your 1/4 mile time you go with a small diameter header (usually 4-2-1 is best) to increase Torque and still gain a bit of HP.
with a big header diameter yoiu may gain more HP but at a loss of torque and that will slow you down off the line and any time your RPMS are not peaked in the powercurve. (not very good for everyday driving)
