Arrow Rear brake drum shoe change

Hi all,

I'm hoping I can manage doing the rear brakes after replacing the front pads/rotors.

I tried searching but not much details on the work involved. I've gone over the repair manual. Wondering if you can share your experiences.

I haven't actually taken the drum off to inspect but I figure since it has never been changed (2007, with 110,000kms) and already doing the fronts. I won't have to worry about it for another 100k.

Other than getting new drums and shoes, should I spend the extra to get the spring kits or do most people re-use existing?

Appreciate it!

Thanks
Antone

Unless you've got a warped drum there is no reason to buy a new one. That being said, I would check the rear shoes first, as they wear very slowly and I'd be surprised if they need to be replaced.

Don't worry about replacing the drum or springs unless there is an issue with either.

Take a picture before you start or use the other side to remember how the springs go back. You likely won't need new shoes yet b ut you should go in there and spray/clean them out and re tension the brakes tighter. I know it has an auto adjust system but I never find those work well to keep the brake as tight as I prefer.

Even with hard braking, the rears do so little of the stopping that it's extremely hard to ever have an issue where new drums are needed.

I take a small air grinder and shave down the lip which causes them to sometimes be a pain to remove. Other than that I leave them.

245,000 kms on mine and I'm just now at the point where I do need to address replacing shoes.
